The world at large and each nation, state, country or county is endowed with its resources and as such human beings are out to gain and outmaneuver each other to remain on top! Our parents take us to the best schools, institutions of higher learning and endeavor to give us the very best so that we can be able to compete against the world and others in our age group. This competition is becoming more widespread in our society to the point where we even seek favors, lobby groups, pay bribes, buy lunch or sell property to ensure that we land that coveted job or secure that rewarding tender.

Due to  factors such as drought and changes in the climate, it is becoming more and more difficult for pastoralist communities in developing countries to feed their flocks. This has created a situation of perennial conflict and violence where individuals are maimed and even killed in a bid to access resources such as water and green pasture. This becomes more and more evident during periods of elections in these developing nations. Government security forces and even NGOs are forced to come to the rescue by supplying food, shelter or security when the situation becomes too dire. If communities that have depended on their way of life for survival are now facing such a crisis due to a lack of resources then what about the rest of the society who don’t depend on  their land or livestock for their daily bread? They depend on using their skills gained through education and work experience to put food on their tables and finding that ‘job’ or any for that matter becomes a bigger challenge than going to obtain the requisite skills through education.

We are therefore in a quagmire and in a difficult position by virtue of living and working in a globalized society. We are competing against one another, boy or girl, man or woman so that we can access resources and be able to make it in life. We are also competing against a global community who are also ensuring they get an upper hand to out do the other. Are you sleeping in this revolution for the control of resources? Are you using your time and talents wisely to ensure that you are not forgotten in this ‘paradigm shift’? If  you fall asleep or drop the ball on this one… then you will be giving others’ a hard time through theft, terrorism, cyber crimes, assault, rape, sodomy to name just a few.
