We are living in an increasingly intolerant world at odds with the other. Be as it may in the political, religious, racial and economic front. Sadly, this should not continue to prevail as the world moves closer together in interdependence.
Our world leaders and each of us as patriotic global citizens should stand up for world peace, tolerance and respect. It is a truism that each nation and state seeks it’s own interest to remain competitive against others. Nonetheless, despite this we ought to hold our elected leaders to the highest ideals in protecting our human rights and freedoms as enshrined by our constitutions and other world charters.
It is paramount that families, schools, churches, mosques and public and private organizations establish an environment where tolerance prevails. All humans beings irrespective of age, race and gender should always feel that they matter and are a valuable part of the world in which they coexist and contribute. Unfortunately, the antithesis of tolerance is beginning to prevail with some world leaders as they strive to make their nations ‘great again’.
Lets us all be vigilant, alert and patriotic in defending the voiceless, poor, innocent and those who have been left for dead. All of us are strangers in our own native lands and we ought to brush off any arrogance and pride that brings a feeling of superiority over our brothers and sisters who are uprooted from their homes.
We can’t assume everyone is the cause of our troubles and we should not prejudice at first. Let us give each other the benefit of doubt, exercise patience and exercise civility and tolerance in our relationships with all.
