All around us there appears to be confusion, anger, frustration and utter despair with the current crop of leaders and would be future leaders. This is because they have utterly forgotten who ‘butters’ their bread as a wise colleague of mine so often states. They have forgotten the individuals, groups, ethnicity’s, religions, families and the nations that gave them the authority to lead. Sadly, what has become of our world leaders is nothing home to write of. Citizens are overburdened with paying their taxes and trying to secure a better future for themselves and their posterity- only for this future to dissipate, crumble, burst and shatter because of a lack of servant type leadership.
This leadership is what the world needs in the men and women who seek public or any office for that matter. This leadership was best lived and perfected by the master servant of our souls (Christ) by focusing on the needs of the people above personal inclinations. Yes, we are all human but because you are a leader more is expected of you from those you lead. Countries and nations need leaders that can motivate, inspire, relate, understand, communicate and make tough decisions that will be beneficial to the general public. Leadership is not one’s turn to eat but one’s to serve and if we got this right- the many challenges experienced by citizens the world over would be greatly mitigated and reduced. The many cases of corruption related stories would not feature so prominently on the screen, radio, print or be a buzz on the social media platform.
To the rising generation, please don’t follow the trend of egotistic leadership and ascending to power to protect one’s interests and even to spare your kin from justice. Seek leadership to change the course of the future. This cannot be achieved by one person alone but by involving the entire nation at large. Schools, universities and companies ought to establish a culture of servitude and community service in their communities. When you serve your fellow men, you became less selfish and more humane. This exercise is working well in a country such as Rwanda, where its people clean their capital together every Saturday in consolidation of building servant leadership. Then again we have other would-be leaders that talk and preach over this sort of leadership to please the masses but never actually walk the talk! We are in dire need of servant leadership that can talk the talk and equally walk the talk- stand up if you are the one…..
